
Why Your Bathroom Heater Needs “Explosion-Proof” Quartz
When you’re designing an infrared lamp for a bathroom, you’re fighting more than just a chilly morning. You’re fighting physics. Think about it: you’ve got a heating element sitting at 500°C. Then, a stray splash of cold shower water hits it. That temperature swing is violent. Regular quartz tubes just can’t take that kind of shock. They snap. And that’s a problem.
The deal with explosion-proof glass
To stop things from going south, we use specialized explosion-proof quartz. Here is how it works: standard glass expands and shrinks. When cold water hits a hot tube, the glass shrinks way too fast in one spot. That creates a massive amount of internal stress, and pop—the tube shatters. Our tubes are different. They have a reinforced layer or a special coating. If a crack does happen, the glass doesn’t spray shards everywhere. It keeps the halogen gas inside and fails quietly rather than bursting. It’s all about making sure a failure isn’t a dangerous one.
Heat, moisture, and the “weak links”
These lamps are designed to pump out a lot of heat quickly. You want to feel that warmth the second you step out of the shower, not five minutes later. But that high-density heat means the tube gets incredibly hot. The glass can handle the heat, but the electrical terminals? Not so much. If steam or water hits those live connections, you’re looking at a short circuit. That’s why you need a solid, waterproof housing. We usually seal the end-caps with high-temp silicone. It’s a simple step, but it stops steam from sneaking into the wiring.
A quick reality check
Now, “explosion-proof” doesn’t mean “indestructible.” If you have hard water, you’ll notice mineral buildup on the glass over time. These deposits create “hot spots” where the heat can’t escape. This causes the glass to expand unevenly, which will eventually kill the tube no matter how high-grade the glass is. The fix is easy: just give the tubes a regular wipe-down. Keep them clean, and they’ll last. Let the scale build up, and you’ll be replacing them a lot sooner than you’d like.
